How to Make Kudzu Wreaths

A member of the pea family, kudzu is a fast-growing vine that thrives in humid environments. This deep green foliage vine may be an invasive species in some parts of the U.S., but it certainly does serve as an attractive material for making wreathes and other crafts. Knowing how to make your own kudzu wreathes gives you the opportunity to make door-hanging embellishments, whether it be for a special occasion or just to be creative.

Instructions

    • 1

Snip a length of stiff jewelry wire measuring 12 to 24 inches; 12 inches will create a small wreath, and 24 inches will create a larger one.

    • 2

Spread out the length of kudzu measuring 42 inches. Squeeze a thick line of glue along the center of the vine.

    • 3

Wrap the vine in a tight spiral formation around the length of stiff wire. When you reach one end, wrap backward in the same spiral formation until you reach the other end. Repeat this until you have wrapped every inch of vine around the wire. Let it dry for 10 minutes.

    • 4

Grasp the vine-wrapped wire in your hands and bend it until the ends meet while forming it into a circular shape. Use pliers to twist the met ends together tightly to connect them.

    • 5

Add finishing embellishments to your kudzu wreath, such as ornaments and wire-wrapped flower blossoms. This all depends on your own creativity, serving as an ongoing project you can create throughout the years.
