Make Sure It's Allowed (and Safe)

• Before adding any addition to your mobile home, check with your local building inspector to make sure it is safe to add something to it. Separate Foundations

• Mobile homes are designed to be tough structures, as they have to withstand the rigors of moving down the highway and being set down in a variety of locations. Any mobile home addition will have its own foundation as well, so that it can literally just butt up against the main mobile home structure. Inside, part of a wall will simply be taken down or a doorway will be made and the addition will be connected by the floor and the roof, but not the foundation, so that the addition (or additions) can be easily separated from the main section of the mobile home and transported to a new location if necessary.

Turnkey Additions

• If a mobile home addition seems like a major project that's going to disrupt your home life and schedule considerably, consider a turnkey mobile home addition. These additions are factory assembled in the same way the main part of the mobile home was assembled, yet are smaller and can be transported to the location of your mobile home. Once there, the construction it takes to connect the turnkey addition to the mobile home itself is short and rather efficient, as the addition can literally just be set down on a separate foundation beside the mobile home itself. A doorway or hallway connecting the two can be constructed quickly and cheaply without disrupting your living situation too much.
