The Best Valves for Hot Tubs

When choosing a hot tub valve, there are several options for consumers. A hot tub valve is usually located on the suction side of the hot tub pump and also at the heater output of the tub. A valve is important for a hot tub because it allows the owner to remove spa parts without the need of draining the hot tub. Finding the best valve for a hot tub depends on your personal preference and need.
  1. Gate Valves

    • A Gate valve allows the hot tub to divert water from a group of jets to another. If a person wants zone control in the hot tub, purchase a hot tub with one of these valves, because some hot tubs do not come equipped with them. These valves will range in size and can typically be found at your local supermarket or can be ordered online.

    Air Valves

    • Air valves are designed to control the amount of air that travels through the hot tub water. The valves can accelerate, decelerate or pulse the amount of water flowing throughout the tub. This type of valve is good for a person who may want to sit in a hot tub and enjoy slow waves of water. However, it can be turned up, and the person can have the water flow at a fast rate. Another type of air valve is an LCD air valve. These valves not only change the acceleration of the water, they also change send a light throughout your hot tub at varying rates.

    Check Valves

    • Check valves are an important part of a hot tub. These valves are used to stop water from backing up into the air lines of the hot tub, which can cause malfunction. If a hot tub doesn't have a check valve in it, the water will back up into the lines and the spa will begin to leak at the air intakes. A check valve should be taken care of and checked for back-up on a bi-monthly basis to prevent leaks and the need for new parts.
