Instructions

  1. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the yard to decide where the guide post will be placed.

    • 2

Drive in short stakes with a rubber mallet or hammer to mark the start and ending location of the guide posts.

    • 3

Tie string around the first stake and connect it to the last stake. Be sure the string is in a straight line.

    • 4

Drive in additional stakes at each point where a guide post will be placed. Post should be place approximately 8 feet apart. Be sure to mark out spaces for gate openings if necessary.

    • 5

Dig a hole at the location of each stake using the power auger. Each post hole should be approximately 30 inches deep. For 5-inch posts, the hole size should be 12 inches deep, and for 4-inch posts, the hole size should be 10 inches deep.

    • 6

Fill the bottom of each hole with gravel for drainage, then mix (according to manufacturer's instructions) and pour one full bag of 80-pound Quickcrete into the hole to fill it just below ground level. Insert the guide post, and move it back and forth to ensure it is filled with concrete. Use a level to make sure the post is level in all directions. Allow the post to set.

Move onto the next post, and repeat the same steps. Give each post 24 hours to completely set before hanging the railings.

    • 7

Hang the pre-fabricated railings onto the post as directed by the manufacturer's instructions using a power drill and the enclosed parts.

Cut each post to desired height using a hand saw. To complete the look, adhere caps to each post using PVC glue. Hang gate doors in desired location, if necessary.
