Durabilt Screen Room Installation

Durability screen rooms are produced by a company that has been in business over 50 years. Its products include awnings, carports and a variety of screen room options. A screen enclosure allows homeowners to extend their interior living space to an adjoining exterior room that is protected from intense sun and bothersome insects, while enjoying the gentle wind of summer.
  1. Building Codes

    • Before you decide on your Durability screen room, make a stop at the local building department and speak to a building code inspector about the regulations you must follow for constructing a screen room enclosure. In some jurisdictions, a building permit is required before you can start the project.

    Roof

    • Begin constructing the Durabilt roof for the three-wall screen room by securing the mounting rail to the house structure. Fasten the rail to the wall studs with screws; predrill the holes so that you don't split the wood. Follow the instructions for determining the appropriate height for the bar. Do not make the mistake of securing the mounting bar to the fascia board, because it will not provide solid support.

Check the building code for the type of fastener to use if you are attaching the railing to a masonry wall. The number of posts required for the roof is determined by the length of the room. Get this information from the instructions. Once you have the posts and header in place, you can mount the roof girders. For an existing roof, begin by raising the front of the roof at least 2 inches above the screen enclosure height. Raise the roof with hydraulic jacks. Place 2-inch by 4-inch boards underneath the roof to brace it in place

    Walls

    • Install vertical channels on the wall house. Horizontal channels are mounted to the floor. Special connections are used in the corners or the channels. Check the channels to ensure that they are straight and level. Snap chalk lines on the floor or wall to help you line up the channels. Place the fasteners about every 12 inches. Dry-fit the channels first. When you have them lined up correctly, mark off the spot for the fasteners. Whether the floor is wood or concrete will determine the type of screw. In any case, predrill the holes to prevent damaging the wood or concrete when inserting the fasteners. Apply sealant to the underside of the channels and in the holes.

Identify the right and left solid corner wall panels. Start with the left wall solid panel. If the wall of the home is not straight, cut the solid panel to make the necessary adjustments. This will ensure that subsequent screen panels line up properly. Continue the installation, moving toward the enclosure door. Follow the same steps on the right side, but work from side to side. Once the wall panels are installed, lower the existing roof back in place.
