Cape Home Modular Addition Ideas

Whether you're planning for the future or you need the space right now, adding an addition to your cape modular home can create more space for you and your family in minimal time. Comprised of multiple building block "rooms", known as modules, modular cape homes are also called modular cape cods and typically have a second story with shorter walls and a slanted ceiling.
  1. Add a Level

    • One of the most common modular home additions is to add a level or story to your home. Level additions are completed by removing the roof and adding an additional module of the same size on top of the existing lower level module. Due to the nature of modular homes, you can typically add an additional level or story in as little as 30 days; however, like adding a story on a traditional stick home, your second story in a modular home is limited to the size of the first level.

    Create an Extension

    • If a second level isn't what you want or isn't visually pleasing, add an extension to the first level of your cape home if you have the space. Use a first level extension to add a hallway with bedrooms, to add an additional bathroom or to expand an existing kitchen, dining room or other living space to meet your family's needs.

    Go Custom

    • If the usual modular home additions aren't your style, talk to an architect or builder with experience in modular home building about a customized addition to your cape home. Customized additions still rely on the standard size modules but can include more individualized additions, such as a new studio space or a large garage. In some cases, you can even place modules in an unusual manner or order, like a cross or T design, to create a more interesting aesthetic to your home's exterior.
