Mobile Home Deck Ideas

Mobile homes are extremely useful in terms of space efficiency, but sometimes they can get a little cramped. An easy remedy to this problem is to add or build a deck that extends out from your mobile home. Decks can be as simple or involved as you are willing to make them, and they provide a chance to enjoy the outdoors with just a little more space.
  1. Simple Deck

    • For a simple and inexpensive deck, you can buy or build a flat wooden deck extending from your door. The simplest form of this design involves wooden pillars below the deck that make your deck level with your mobile home, leaving space between the deck and the ground. On top of the pillars are wooden slabs, with a basic wooden railing surrounding the deck. If you desire, add a few wooden stairs on one end of the deck to walk down into the surrounding land. This kind of deck is easy and inexpensive and can be built, either by yourself or by a builder, within days.

    Covered Deck

    • For a slightly more expensive deck, use the same basic design as the simple wooden deck, but use a variety of materials to provide covering from sunlight. One easy way is to buy an awning that extends from the roof of your mobile home across part of the deck. This will allow for a combination of sunlight and shade on your deck. Or use a cheap roofing material and simply extend it from the roof of your mobile home. This style also creates a more permanent-looking image. Also, the roof will allow you to add interesting touches to your deck, such as hanging plants or wind chimes.

    Open Roof Deck

    • Another twist on the simple deck design is to build wooden beams across the top of the deck. This is a classy way to create a version of a roof without paying for the entire roof. Build beams going in one direction across the roof and you will have sunlight spilling in but slightly tempered by the beams. If you want to create some completely shady spots, try growing a vine up the poles of the deck. Use wire to tie the vine to the beams as it grows and you will have created a naturally shady spot. Also, if you are looking for extra storage space, add wooden doors or wood lattices below the deck to hide whatever extra things you want to store below. The space will be both beautiful and functional.
