Diving Board Installation Instructions

Pools are popular places to spend time during the summer, especially an in-ground pool in your own back yard. To make your swimming time even more enjoyable, you can add a diving board. It's not a difficult installation, but it does take some time and some calculations to make sure you select the proper diving board for your pool.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the depth, length and width of the pool at the deep end. Diving boards require a minimum water area for safe diving. The size of the area will dictate how long a diving board you can install and how high off the water it can be. The longer the board and the higher off the water it is, the deeper and wider the pool will need to be. A 6-foot-long board that is 20 inches off the water needs a minimum depth of 7.5 feet. A 10-foot-long board that is 40 inches off the water needs a minimum depth of 9 feet.

    • 2

Measure the proper distance from the edge of the pool that you will need to set your anchor jig. The jig is the bolt assembly that will be set in concrete to anchor the diving board stand to the ground. The measurement is again determined by the length of your diving board and the height off the water. Your diving board should come with a chart that will help you determine the proper distances required.

    • 3

Test to ensure that your anchor jig fits your diving board properly. You don't want to install the jig in concrete only to find out that it doesn't match your diving board.

    • 4

Set the anchor jig in at least 6 inches of concrete at the distance determined in Step 2. The concrete area for the diving stand should be flat and level. Leave at least 1.5 inches of the anchor bolt projecting above the concrete. Then let the concrete set for a week.

    • 5

Remove the protective coating from the anchor bolts. Place the diving stand over the bolts and fasten the stand to the concrete. Place a flat washer, lock washer and hex nut on each anchor bolt and fasten with a wrench.

    • 6

Fasten the diving board to the diving stand using the bolts, washers and hex nuts that came with your diving board.
