Custom Bar Design Ideas

If you are looking to spice up your space a bit, consider building a custom bar area in your home. A space like this will give you and your guests a fun and relaxing place to enjoy time together. Depending on your taste, you can create a variety of different looks. You may choose to honor the old west or bring a taste of your favorite vacation paradise home with you to enjoy. The possibilities are endless.
  1. Tiki Bar

    • Place a thatched roof over your bar and line the face of the bar with cut bamboo poles to achieve a tropical look and feel. To add to the tropical vibe, hang rope fishing-style nets on the underside of the thatched roof and place large sea shells in them. Tiki statues are usually available at speciality stores and home warehouse stores and they too can add to the atmosphere. Coconuts cut in half can make decorations or useful drinking glasses. Real or artificial palm trees placed near the bar and seaside decorations, such as old surfboards, will help to complete your project. Don't forget colorful drink umbrellas. The small details really add up.

    Wine Bar

    • A wine bar can give your space an upscale look and feel while giving you and your guests a place to relax and unwind. Consider the fact that not all of guests will enjoy their wine chilled and make sure to have wine storage areas for both cold wines and room temperature wines. Wine refrigerators are readily available at home decor stores and department stores, and storage racks for bottles can be either purchased or hand-built. Overhead racks for wine and champagne glasses to slide in and out of keep your glassware organized and out of the way. For seating, consider bar stools and pub tables with tall chairs.

    Saloon

    • If you are a cowboy at heart, a western-style saloon complete with swinging doors and a knotty pine or dark oak bar may be your best bet. Many speciality stores and antique stores sell light fixtures made of deer antlers, and these combined with artwork depicting the old west will give your bar an authentic look. Wagon wheels, lassos, spurs and cowboy boots can also help create the look that you desire. For a honky-tonk vibe, consider placing a jukebox or an old piano in one corner, if you have the space. Lighting in a bar of this type should be dark and moody.
