How to Assemble a Portable Carport

Portable carports offer a solution to those homeowners or other drivers who need a place to protect their car from the elements without the expense of a more permanent shelter. Another advantage of a portable carport is it can be easily moved. Proper assembly is crucial in order to guarantee that the carport has a long life. Instructions

    • 1

Unpack kit and place all the parts out on the ground. Verify that all pieces are there. Check the parts for any flaws, tears or other damage.

    • 2

Assemble the frame poles for the sides, following the specific manufacturer's instructions for the type of frame. Pipes are designed in smaller pieces and then fit together to make longer spans. Insert the locking screws into the poles to hold the pieces firmly together and tighten them with a screwdriver.

    • 3

Fit the roof poles together in the same method as the side panels. Add the screws and reinforcement braces and tighten all connections securely.

    • 4

Lay the roof frame on its top, and begin placing the side frame panels into the roof connectors, anchoring them with screws. When the two sections are fully connected, carefully raise the completed frame to the upright position.

    • 5

Unroll the carport cover on the ground and flatten it out so the top is facing up. Have an assistant help you grasp one side of it and help pull it up over the frame. Adjust the fabric until it drapes evenly over all sides.

    • 6

Connect the cover's corner straps to the frame using the attached hooks and connect them to the small holes in the frame poles. Pull the cover tight and begin securing the side flaps to the rest of the frame. These may be hook based or Velcro depending on the manufacturer.

Hammer the stake anchors into the ground and use tie supports to brace the carport. For other types of mounting, follow anchor instructions from the manufacturer based on the model you are installing.
