Patio Update Ideas

Whether you have lived in your home for a number of years or you have purchased an older home, chances are that your patio needs updating. By adding more space to your patio and using upgraded design techniques, your updated patio space can become the new entertainment location for your friends and family.
  1. Additional Space

    • If you have the small, basic patio that is made of concrete flooring, add more space to your patio. Instead of extending the space into your yard with more concrete, use terracotta tiles or large stone tiles as your flooring to add a Tuscan feel to your outside space. If you want to add another dimension to your patio, build a slightly raised deck from the edge. You can make the deck a wrap-around extension of the patio with railings to prevent injury. With this added space, more people can enjoy your patio just as much as you do.

    Furniture

    • Old-fashioned patio furniture is often very basic; it is made of plastic and polyester or wicker and is only built for sitting. More modern patio furniture includes patio tables with built-in fire pits, which is especially useful for cold summer nights or cold winter months when you want to still enjoy the outside on your patio. Other modern furniture includes full sets that come with chairs, a table, a patio love seat or settee and a chaise lounge, providing you with all of the essential pieces of furniture that your living room has but is meant for outside use; you can also add a bench swing to this full set.

    Outdoor Kitchen Area

    • An outdoor kitchen is an idea that will definitely update the look, feel and usability of your patio. When you have friends and associates over for special events, you want to spend time with them while you are preparing and cooking the food you are about to serve. Instead of running in and out of the house, build a partial or full kitchen under a gazebo on a section of your patio. If you have a smaller patio, build or install a cabinet where at least all of the utensils can be stored.
