How to Get Electrical Work on a Pool Inspected

The electrical work on your pool needs to have been completed by a state licensed electrical contractor in order to be inspected. A licensed electrician will need to complete or approve the work done on the pool, pull a permit for the type of work completed, then an inspector from the state will come and inspect the electrical work. If the electrical work is approved, you can continue your repairs. If the electrical work is denied, the electrician will need to bring the electrical portion up to state code requirements for it to pass inspection.

Hire a licensed electrician to complete your electrical work on the pool. Most electricians will not approve any work they have not completed themselves. If something goes wrong with the wiring the person who wired the pool will be held accountable for the work. If an electrician is permitting the job, he is then taking responsibility for the workmanship.

Tell the electrician you want the job permitted. Pulling a permit for an electrical job automatically generates a state inspection. The electrician will need to apply for a permit at your local county inspections office. The permit can range from $50 to $300 depending on your county fees. Additional costs may be added by the electrician to pull the permit.

Request a copy of the electrical inspection once the pool is inspected. You will need to present a copy of the approved inspection certification to any other trades on site to continue with any additional work need to complete the pool job. All permits and final sign offs should be kept by the General Contractor.
