Steam Shower Vs. Sauna

Saunas and steam showers use dry and wet heat respectively to provide relaxation for people. Benefits of saunas and steam rooms include increased circulation and metabolism, detoxification of the skin and muscle relief.
  1. Description

    • Saunas are enclosed rooms made of wood, with wooden benches. Because saunas offer a dry heat with a low humidity, the temperature can range from 80 to 100 degrees Celsius, which translates to about 176 to 212 Fahrenheit. Steam showers, as well as steam rooms, are often designed with ceramic tiles to maintain moisture; these shower rooms have a lower temperature of approximately 38 to 45 degrees Celsius (100-113 Fahrenheit) and high levels of humidity.

    Heat

    • Saunas are typically heated by pouring water on heated stones, while steam showers are powered by steam generators.

    Cautions

    • People who have difficulties breathing, such as people with asthma, may find the dry heat of the sauna uncomfortable. On the other hand, steam room showers provide the ideal environment for bacteria.
