How to Connect a Wall Plug Connector of RJ 45 Cable

All RJ-45 connectors look much like phone jacks and are used in Cat 5 wiring systems for data transfer. When setting up a Cat 5 system in your home, the installation will be much cleaner if the data cabling terminates in wall jacks into which you can plug cables connecting your computer or other devices into the system. Wiring this wall plug connector must be done with care to ensure proper data flow.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove 1 inch of the outer jacket from the data cable with wire cutters or wire strippers, exposing the eight color-coded wires inside. Separate the wires and remove 3/8 inch of insulation from the end of each of these wires with a set of wire strippers.

    • 2

Place the wires in the following order, from left to right: brown, brown/white, yellow, blue, blue/white, yellow/white, green, green/white.

    • 3

Hold the wires between your thumb and fore finger and insert them carefully through the crimping ring on the back side of the wall plug connector, and insert the wires in the individual pin sockets on the back of the wall plug connector, pushing each wire into each pin in order.

Place your crimp tool on the crimping ring and close the jaws firmly on the crimp tool by squeezing the handles.
