Pick the right drill bit for your job. If you want to mount your sign on a wooden door, use a wood bit which has small pins sticking out the top. Make sure your drill bit measures up to the screws you want to use. For wood, you might want to use bits with a diameter of one millimeter less than the diameter of the screws you want to use, allowing your screws to thread the wood as well.
Mount your drill bit on the chuck of your drill and plug the drill into an outlet.
Measure the distance from each of the holes in the back of your sign. Place dots on the surface you want to mount your sign on signifying where the holes should be situated.
Point your drill at the surface you want to drill and pull on the trigger lightly, increasing speed and pushing forward as you drill. Techniques might vary depending on the material of the surface. Metal, for example, requires you to put oil or some other drilling lubricant on the surface before drilling.
Place the sign on the holes that you drilled and hold it up while you put screws in the holes on the opposite end. Screw them in a bit with your fingers to start capturing the threaded inserts.
Tighten the screws further with a screwdriver while you push the sign onto the holes. Allow the heads of the screws to hold the sign up.
