Garage Door Installation Guide

A garage needs a well-built door to keep out the elements and protect your car. Installing a new door on a garage may seem like an overwhelming task, but with the help of a friend, the construction is not altogether difficult. It is important that the tracks and door panels be installed properly to prevent warping and cracking of the components, as well as bending of the track metal, which is very expensive to repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Screw a hinge in the middle of the bottom door panel, at the top using a drill. The hinge allows the door panels to buckle when the door moves up the track when opening. Attach one more hinge at the left and right end of the door panel, at the top.

    • 2

Tilt the weatherstripping at an angle, and push it onto the bottom panel of the door until it locks in place.

    • 3

Lay the bottom bracket on the bottom of the door, overlapping the weatherstripping. Screw through the bracket and the weatherstripping to secure the bracket in place. Use an impact driver to get the screws in. Insert the roller wheels into the side of the bracket by sliding them into the roller holes. The roller wheels lock in.

    • 4

Place the first panel on the ground in front of the garage door opening. Place the track of the door so that it is flush against the door frame, with the track covering the wheels of the bottom panel. Screw the lag screws in to secure the track.

    • 5

Attach the hinges to the second panel, and place the unhinged side on top of the first panel. Attach the hinges from the first panel to the second panel. Continue doing this for all the panels included in your set. Adjust the tracks for the rollers so that the track is not touching the door.

    • 6

Attach the second part of the roller track, the transition between the vertical and horizontal. Screw it in place.

    • 7

Lift the garage door up, and place a clamp on the track so that the door does not come down on top of you. Place the cable over the wheel on the top of the track, and attach it to the bracket on the bottom of the door. Do this on each side. Pull the other end of the wire through the pulley on the end of your opener spring.
