Inground Spa Ideas

Inground spas are different from hot tubs, which usually have less "bells and whistles" than spas. An inground spa is a hydrotherapeutic tub used for relaxation and rejuvenation. Inground spas can also use jets, lighting and comfort settings. The circular whirlpool action of the water in a spa can be quite therapeutic. The luxurious features of inground spas can soothe tired muscles, ease body aches and help bring your body into a peaceful state. Inground spas can be designed to comfortably fit as many as 10 people.
  1. Construction

    • Many spas are constructed using fiberglass or acrylic. However, there are other materials that can be used to make a spa. A high-quality inground spa may be made of gunite. Gunite is a type of concrete that is actually stronger than regular concrete due to its dense packing that is sprayed into it. Gunite is highly adaptable and can be molded to fit into unusual shapes. A plaster finish may be combined with gunite to construct a custom color or effect for an inground spa. No matter the selected material, it should be durable and able to hold up to regular use over time.

    Installation

    • The area where the spa will be installed should be a flat, level surface. An inground spa can be installed with a number of options. It can be installed into a deck, a room or a patio floor. Make sure that the area where you want to build the inground spa can support the spa. Arrange for private contractors such as an electrician and plumber to assist with recommendations and building specifications.

    Heating

    • Consider the heating of the inground spa. There is electric heating or gas heating, which may be natural gas or propane. Gas heaters are more expensive upfront. Yet over the long term, gas heaters are more affordable when calculated on a monthly basis. The inground spa will include temperature controls to adjust the heat settings.

    Options

    • Inground spa options can include jet types, colors, lighting and seating. Inground spa lighting can enhance the look and design of the spa. Lights are available with colored lenses, which can change the spa color and set a mood. Inground spas can give you the freedom to install the amount of jets desired and where you want them placed. A fully adjustable or non-adjustable jet will affect the flow of water in the spa. Some spas even come with an electronic control pad mounted on the inside of the spa.
