Select a large, deep planting container that can be customized to look ornamental. For instance, a large old-fashioned bathing bowl is pretty and heavy-duty to withstand woody dwarf plants. You can also select a mid-sized terra cotta flower pot.
Fill the container you've chosen three-quarters full with potting soil. Layer an inch of peat moss over the potting soil to provide moisture retention.
Select and transplant a couple of different flower varieties. Use single plants instead of bundles. For instance, small, single carnations can be transplanted as long as the roots are kept with soil around them for the transplanting. Arrange three or four types of flowers in the container. Water the flowers once you are finished to promote health. Surround the flowers with small, decorative rocks for accent.
Wrap the outside of the container with colored gift-wrapping plastic. This plastic is thin, shiny and feels like decorative foil. It can be obtained from craft and hobby supply stores. Hold the wrapping in place with a strip of tape.
Cut a length of wide-gauge silk ribbon from the roll measuring 24 inches. Tie the ribbon around the center of the plant container and tie it off into a simple bow.
