Treehouse Ideas for Girls

A tree house is a place for your children to play, have adventures and experience their first bit of independence. Depending on the size and strength of your tree, the house can be small or elaborate. A girly tree house is relatively easy to accomplish with the right coat of paint and just a few accessories. Design ideas are virtually limitless, so take your cue from your little girl's interests and personality.
  1. Basic Design

    • Building a tree house involves finding the right location and gathering the correct supplies. It is time-consuming and must be done very carefully so that your child will be as safe as possible. Tree houses can be extremely detailed or as simple as a deck with a roof built in a strong tree. The most difficult part of building a tree house is building the frame. Build sturdy flooring, a solid ladder and a roof.

    Exterior Color

    • As far as color choices, ask what your little girl's favorite color is. A top choice is usually pink, whether it's hot pink or pastel. Purple is another favorite. Get creative with your paint job; paint the entire house pink, and add some purple or mint green polka dots. For a more muted appearance, paint the house a light yellow with white dots or even alternating stripes in multiple colors. If you're a gifted artist, paint a mural of a field on one side of the house or even her favorite animal. A gingerbread-style house may also be an appealing choice. Create contrast by painting your trim a different color than the rest of the house.

    Special Interior

    • Add a lot of personality to the interior of your tree house. Choose a theme, or decorate the house like a miniature version of your home. Some themes could be a Parisian cafe, a storybook cottage or a princess's castle. Since the house will be affected by the elements, don't add anything that may blow away or that may be damaged by moisture, heat or cold.

Add a sign that labels the house as your little girl's home. Create a reading nook with a small bookcase filled with her favorite books. Set up a small table with chairs for snack time. You can keep a small broom inside the house so that your little girl can always sweep up the crumbs to prevent insects from setting up their own house.

    Finishing Touches

    • Add some shutters to your exterior windows. If there are no windows but only railings, wind some faux vines and flowers around the posts. Avoid real flowers to prevent bees. Paint or hang a sign that says, "Girls Only!" You can add a slide on the wall opposite the door if the house is not too high off the ground. And add a small pulley system with a basket attached so that you can easily give her items she may need, like a magic fairy wand, her favorite doll or lunch.
