Typical Cabinet Measurements

Standard cabinet measurements are often associated with standard kitchen cabinets. These measurements are often used when building garage cabinets and additional storage units that rest on the floor or are wall-mounted. There are various cabinet measurements, because there are several types of standard kitchen cabinets. Make note of the measurements you require for your kitchen cabinet plans.
  1. Single-Door Cabinets

    • Single-door cabinets are located on both the floor and the wall, but the measurements for each type differ. Those resting on the floor are larger than those hanging on the wall. The floor cabinets measure 34 1/2 inches high and 24 inches deep. The overall width solely depends on the cabinet. It may be as narrow as 12 inches or as wide as 24. Those hanging on the wall have the similar widths, but are only 30 inches high and 12 inches deep.

    Double-Door Cabinets

    • The typical standard measurements for double-door cabinets also differ. Double-door cabinets are wider than single-door, having a width of between 24 and 48 inches. The depth is the same as for the single-door cabinets, meaning that the wall cabinets are smaller than the floor units. The height of these units is also the same as the height of the single-door units.

    Corner Cabinets

    • Corner cabinets have measurements that are different from the floor cabinets and wall cabinets, as they must fit into the corners of the kitchen. The floor units are a full 36 inches in width, which is 36 inches on both sides of the corner. The wall-mounted corner cabinets are only 24 inches wide on both corner walls. While the floor corner units are the same height as regular floor cabinets, the wall corner units are 40 inches in height.

    Other Cabinets

    • Cabinets located under the sink are the same height as the standard floor cabinets, but are approximately 27 to 33 inches in width. The depth is also the same as that of the floor cabinets to create a consistent design throughout the kitchen. End-shelves are visible shelves mounted to the ends of cabinet units. On floor units, these shelves are 24 inches on both walls, so it is consistent with the depth of the floor cabinets. For wall-mounted end-shelves, the width is 12 inches on both corner sides.
