Inspect the ordered trusses. Ensure you have enough trusses for the roof you are building. Use a tape measure to check for the correct span and pitch. Also note any damages so the trusses can be replaced before starting the job.
Place ladders and scaffolding against the building if you and other helpers are lifting the trusses by hand. Secure all ladders and scaffolding to prevent tipping. You can also use a crane to lift the trusses into place.
Mark where the end of each truss will land on the cap plate. Measure 24 inches on center for each truss. Install one gable end truss by lifting it into position against the cap plate's outside edge. Attach two 2-by-4 wood braces against the end truss. Secure the braces to stakes in the ground using screws.
Lift main trusses upside down. Refrain from twisting or bending trusses. Place one end of the truss on a wall plate. Set the other end on the opposite wall plate. Upright the truss and rest it up against the erected gable end truss.
Lift the other trusses in the same manner. Position them and temporarily brace them so that you can get the second gable end truss in place. Begin securing the trusses by installing permanent bracing.
