Historic Renovation Grants

While the United States is a relatively new country when compared to its former mother country, England, a rich history does exist which can be found in its architecture. Preserving these buildings means preserving our country's past. If you are interested in renovating a historic building, you can apply for a number of historic renovation grants that can help you fund your project.
  1. National Trust Preservation Fund

    • This historic renovation grant is targeted to nonprofit organizations and public agencies. Your organization can receive from $500 to $5,000 in matching funds for educational programs as well as preservation planning. The funds can also be used toward paying a professional to help with architecture, engineering, fund-raising and other programs.     Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors

    • This grant is for houses that are on the National Historic Landmark list. If this applies to your building, this grant can be used to restore the interior. The grants rage from $2,500 to $10,000 and are available to individuals as well as business that are for-profit. Information is available from a variety of offices around the country, including:

    Johanna Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation

    • This historic renovation grant is for both nonprofits and public agencies. According to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the grant is for buildings that will "contribute to the preservation or the recapture of an authentic sense of place."     Save America's Treasures Grant

    • This grant is available to those whose homes are on the National Register of Historic Places. If your house qualifies, then you can receive money from the National Park Service. However, since this is a matching grant, should you receive a certain amount of money from the Save America's Treasures Grant, you need to match it, dollar for dollar.
