Contact your local newspaper office. Many newspapers sell misprints and extra copies of their newspaper by the pallet at far less than the per paper rate you would see at the newsstand. Some will also sell or give away the end rolls, which are the leftover ends of unprinted newsprint rolls.
Contact your local recycling center. If your local newspaper automatically recycles all of its unused newsprint and newspapers, it may direct you to your local recycling center by default. At some recycling centers, you may be able to take as much old newspaper as you need at no charge. Some recycling centers will charge a nominal fee in order to take old newspapers.
Use free or local classified or entertainment newspapers. Many areas have these types of newspapers available at conveniences stores, post offices and restaurants. If you only need a small amount of newspaper or need them for a onetime situation, this may be an option.
Ask friends and family who subscribe to newspapers to save their old copies for you. If you do not need the newspaper immediately or only need a small amount, you may be able to build a small stash of newspaper from this method.
