Grants to Replace Windows for Energy Conservation in South Carolina

Many states have multiple sources of grant funding for window replacement to enhance energy efficiency. However, South Carolina has no state, local, nonprofit or utility grants available for such projects, according to the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency. The only option for grant funding for window replacement in South Carolina is the federal Tribal Energy Program grant.
  1. Eligibility

    • Only American Indian tribal governments in South Carolina may apply for a TEP grant. However, a tribe's proposal may focus on either energy-efficiency projects like replacing windows or renewable energy projects like those involving solar, wind, geothermal and other forms of power. According to Native Languages, the Catawba Indian Nation is the only federally recognized tribe in the state.

    Funding Level

    • The amount of funding rewarded varies from proposal to proposal, and solicitations are considered on a competitive basis; tribal governments from South Carolina contend with tribes from all over the country. In January 2011, the DOE announced that the TEP would issue up to $10 million in 2011 toward energy-related project in tribal communities.

    Application

    • The TEP releases funding opportunity announcements (FOAs), which include application instructions, content and the criteria by which applications will be evaluated for potential funding. As of June 2011, the TEP website listed three FOAs (see Resources), two of which would consider energy-efficiency projects like window replacement.
