House Made From Recycled Materials

To avoid adding to our landfills and to be kinder to the planet, many home builders are turning to recycled materials to build their homes. Recycled materials including lumber, hardware, concrete and even old windows can be used in home development.
  1. Recycled Concrete

    • Recycled concrete is easily used in home building. What was once a patio or driveway can be broken up and used as pavers or garden walls, or broken down entirely and used in garden paths.

    Reclaimed Lumber

    • Reclaimed lumber is an excellent source of recycled materials. Reclaimed lumber can be used for fences, framing, cabinetry material and flooring. The benefit in reclaimed lumber is that the new lumber may need time to dry out while the reclaimed lumber is already cured.

    Shipping Containers

    • Recycled shipping containers represent another source of home-building materials. These durable steel containers are fireproof and affordably priced --- some at less than $1,000 --- and are available in large supply. Innovative architects are designing ways of stacking them into multistory buildings.
