How to Recycle an Asphalt Emulsion Driveway

Asphalt emulsion is a driveway sealer that you can use to prevent cracks and weather damage on your driveway. If you are replacing your driveway, you can recycle the asphalt that you sealed with emulsion sealer; you can also recycle extra emulsion sealer if you no longer need it. Emulsion sealer is a hazardous waste material and you cannot dispose of it with your household trash or drop it off at your recycling center, but the sealer itself and the old asphalt are reusable if disposed of properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact your city's hazardous waste facility. Inform the facility that you have asphalt emulsion that you need to dispose of. The facility will provide you with a specific location that accepts such materials for disposal. The material will be broken down if necessary or handled with the necessary steps to reuse it.

    • 2

Transport your asphalt emulsion driveway pieces or containers of the emulsion sealer to the facility.

    • 3

Provide the facility with proper identification if required. Most facilities require identification to prove you are a resident of the area under their jurisdiction if you wish to dispose of the materials free of charge.
