How to Replace an Energy Saving Socket on a Light Fixture

Saving energy is a priority for many homeowners. However, disposing of usable fixtures in favor of new GU24 equipped light fixtures is not a cost-saving measure. If your decor features antiques or collectible items, such as mid-century lamps, making a permanent change to the fixture may not be an option. Instead, consider adding an adapter to your lamp. A E26 to GU24 adapter allows you to change your light bulbs from the inefficient incandescent bulbs to the new CFL bulbs with a GU24 base.

Turn the light off. Unplug the lamp from the wall or flip the circuit breaker off at the box.

    • 3

Screw the E26 medium base adapter into the light fixture.

Insert the GU24 base bulb into the adapter. Twist to latch the prongs into the base.

Dispose of the old bulb according to your local waste management company's regulations.
