How to Spray the Exterior Wall on the Insulation Coatings of a Metal Building

The style and materials used to construct a building play a factor in how the building is insulated, as certain types of insulation work well in certain structures, while being unusable on other structures. Metal buildings are often used as warehouses, or by manufacturers to house their factories. These buildings often contain irregular surfaces, such as corrugated steel and exposed support beams, which makes using fiberglass or foam-board insulation impractical or impossible. Spray-foam insulation, however, can be ideal for metal buildings, as it can conform to the building's oddly shaped surfaces.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the fittings on the tanks, hose and nozzle to ensure that they're tight. Put on safety goggles, gloves and a respirator.

    • 2

Open the valves on the tanks that contain the chemicals for the insulation. Once they're mixed, they react to create the foam insulation.

    • 3

Begin spraying the insulation onto one upper corner of the first wall. If needed, rent a hydraulic lift -- so you can access the higher sections of the wall. Move the gun back and forth, covering a section of the wall that measures 3 to 4 feet, and then moving onto the next section after the wall has been covered.

    • 4

Spray the foam insulation onto every surface that needs to be insulated, then inspect the walls to see if you missed any spots. Apply more insulation if needed. The insulation only needs a few moments to cure.
