How to Install Econoline Planks on the Floor of Your House

The Kronotex Econoline brand of wood flooring includes a wide variety of faux-wood laminate surfaces such as cherry, pine, oak, pecan and others. The flooring comes in different edge patterns that allows installation of a floating floor, which is not nailed or otherwise connected to the subfloor. The installation process is very similar for the angle lock, click lock or drop lock planks.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the first plank in the corner of the room, with a 1/4-inch space between both the top and side of the plank, and the two walls that make up the corner. Place the plastic spacer that comes with the planks between the plank and the wall to maintain the required distance. Continue to place the planks going down the length of the wall.

    • 2

Measure the distance between the last whole plank and the upcoming wall. Saw a plank off to fit this space, again leaving 1/4 inch between the bottom short edge of the last plank and the wall.

    • 3

Start the second row at the top with the other part of the plank you cut to size for the bottom of the first row. This ensures that the row joints -- where the planks meet along the short ends -- do not line up evenly.

    • 4

Connect the first plank for the second row to the first row by snapping or sliding it on, depending upon the type of edge connector. Continue to connect the second row planks next to the first row until you reach the bottom of the row. Cut another plank to fit the available space, then use the remaining portion of that plank to start the third row.

    • 5

Continue to add rows, cutting planks where necessary to make room for heating vents and door jambs.

    • 6

Remove the spacers from around the walls. Finish the room by nailing wall molding around the edges to cover the 1/4-inch gap between the floor and the wall.
