Lacquer Finish on Newly Installed Solid Wood Hardwood Floors After Installation

Applying floor lacquer protects hardwood from scuffs and scratches while facilitating cleaning and adding a beautiful shine. Lacquer offers better protection and lasts longer than paste wax finish. Depending on the level of traffic on your floor, a lacquer finish can last for several years to a lifetime.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all furniture and other items from the room and vacuum the floor to remove all dust and grime.

    • 2

Mop the floor with a commercial wood cleaner to dissolve any grease on the floor. Rinse with plain water and allow the floor to dry thoroughly before proceeding.

    • 3

Sand the floor with 120-grit sandpaper.

    • 4

Vacuum the floor immediately before applying lacquer to ensure the floor is completely free of dust.

    • 5

Pour a pancake-sized puddle of lacquer in the middle of the floor. Evenly distribute a thin layer of lacquer over the floor, using a lamb’s wool applicator. Wait one hour before ventilating the room to prevent air from disturbing the lacquer and causing bubbles and waves.

    • 6

Buff the dry floor to a shine, using a buffing machine.
