Choose the longest or most visible wall in your installation area. You will always have cuts in a flooring installation and the best option for a room that isn’t square is to have the cuts in areas that are out of the way because visitor’s eyes are more likely to focus on the longest or most visible sections of rooms. Under counters or tables and into closets are areas where people usually don’t notice.

Cut the tongues off the pieces across the wall and run one row down the enter length, snapping them together at their side mounting points. Place the spacers against the wall and push your first row of laminate against your spacers.

    • 3

Install your subsequent rows, attaching the tongue and grooves of each individual piece one row at a time. Tap each new piece into place firmly with the rubber mallet. Use the pattern that the manufacturer recommends or based on your personal preference. Be sure to stagger joints.

Make any cuts on your miter saw. Because you are working in an unsquare room each cut will be at a slight angle. Measure to the wall from each side of the previous board and make two marks on the board you want to cut. Line up the two marks on the tray of your miter saw and cut the pieces.
