How to Connect 2 Rooms Together With Laminate Flooring

Matching the spacing and flow of laminate flooring between two rooms can be difficult. This is because the installation of the flooring has to be precise to get the flooring to connect conveniently. Additionally, trying to match the flooring in the two rooms can throw off the look and feel of the flooring in one of the rooms. The best way to connect the rooms is with a transition called a T-molding.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the gap in the doorway between the two rooms of laminate flooring with a measuring tape. Use this measurement to purchase a T-molding. When it is installed, the top of the molding should cover the edges of the laminate floors and the bottom of the molding should be spaced approximately 1/4 inch from the edge of both laminate floors.

    • 2

Mark the doorway measurement on the T-molding with a pencil or marker. Place the molding transition on the miter saw so it is flat. Cut the transition to size.

    • 3

Clean the gap between the laminate flooring of the two rooms. Do this with a broom or vacuum.

    • 4

Apply polyurethane glue or construction adhesive to the bottom edge of the T-molding transition. Set the molding in place without getting the glue on the laminate floors. Press the transition into place. Do not walk or step on the molding transition for 24 hours.
