How to Get Laminate Flooring in Next to the Wall

Laminate flooring is easy to install, but the most difficult part of the installation occurs when you reach the last row in the room. This row often has to be cut to fit a small space, and that flooring is nearly impossible to click into place as you do with the main area of the floor. A specialized laminate flooring pull bar or a flat pry bar helps.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the laminate flooring in the room at least 24 hours prior to installation. The flooring needs time to adjust to the temperature and humidity of the room.

    • 2

Install the laminate flooring per manufacturer directions until you can no longer lay solid planks down. At this point there should be laminate flooring in the entire room except for the last row, right next to the wall.

    • 3

Take the measurement of the space between the wall and installed laminate flooring. Subtract 1/4 inch to account for the expansion space next to the wall.

    • 4

Mark the measurements on the last uninstalled row of laminate flooring with a pencil.

    • 5

Cut the laminate flooring to size with a table saw.

    • 6

Set the laminate flooring in the hole between the installed flooring and the wall. Place a pull bar over the laminate flooring edge. Pull on the pull bar until the flooring piece clicks in place with the adjacent laminate plank. The pull bar makes it possible to get the laminate flooring as close to the wall as needed.

Cover the expansion gap with baseboard molding or trim.
