Measure the doorway or flooring transition area with the help of a friend and a measuring tape. Write the measurement down and take it with you when purchasing the laminate flooring transition.
Purchase an appropriate transition for the area between the two floors. Purchase a reducer transition if the two types of laminate flooring are at different heights; t-molding should be used if the laminate floors are the same height. Choose a stain or finish that matches or complements both types of laminate flooring.
Cut the transition molding to the right size. Use a measuring tape and the measurements from the doorway area to mark the transition where it needs to be cut. Cut the transition molding with the miter saw.
Check the gap between the two types of flooring to make sure there is nothing that will get in the way of the transition installation. Remove protruding nails or staples with pliers or a hammer. Vacuum up the dirt and debris from the area.
Glue or screw the transition moldings in place. If you are installing the transition over concrete, apply polyurethane glue to the bottom of the molding and set in place. Transitions set over a wood subfloor can be screwed into place with wood screws. Place the transition so that the bottom of the molding has ¼-inch expansion gaps on either side. Let the glue dry for 24 hours before use.
