How to Install an End Cap in Laminate Flooring

There are many different types of transition molding that can be purchased to work with you laminate flooring. One of the most common type is the end cap transition. This transition is also called a carpet end cap because it usually transitions the laminate flooring to carpeting. When installed, the end cap will cover both the laminate flooring and the carpeting. The transition is easy to install and “ends” the laminate flooring at the carpet in a professional looking manner.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area where the end cap needs to be installed. End cap on laminate flooring is typically installed as a transition to carpeting. However, it is also sometimes installed in front of exterior and sliding doors.

    • 2

Transfer the measurement to the end cap and track. Cut the end cap and end cap track with a miter saw.

    • 3

Clean the transition area with a vacuum so there is not any dust or debris.

    • 4

Apply polyurethane glue to the bottom of the end cap track. Press the track into place. The track should be located one-quarter inch away from the laminate flooring. Let the track dry overnight.

    • 5

Snap the end cap transition into the installed track. One edge of the end cap should cover the laminate flooring while the other covers the carpeting. This part of the carpeting should not have any padding and extends past the tack strip. Tuck this part of the carpeting under the end cap.
