Use a T-molding to transition between floor coverings of the same height. Measure the space between the two sections of floor, and install a trim track of that size to the floor between the two coverings. Measure the width of the doorway or seam where the floors meet, cut the T-molding piece to size, and press the vertical piece on the T-molding down into the track, so the horizontal piece of molding sits centered over the edges of the meeting floors.
Install end moldings to areas of the floor that transition from a room inside the house to an outdoor space, such as a porch or balcony, or to a unique spot of indoor flooring, like the top of steps leading down to a basement. Measure the doorway width, and install track of this length into the space where the indoor flooring meets the exterior of the house or the basement. Place the end molding so the thick side sits against the exterior flooring surface, and the flat side sits on top of the edge of the interior flooring surface.
Place end molding in areas of the floor where carpeting meets any type of solid flooring, such as tile or hardwood. Install the end molding using the same process as installing transitions to exterior spaces, but place the thick edge of the end molding against the edge of the carpeting, and place the flat side on top of the solid flooring surface.
Transition between two types of flooring of different heights with a reducer trim. Install a track between unique flooring transitions, such as cement to hardwood, and place the reducer trim so the higher piece sits over the higher flooring, in this instance, hardwood, and the lower piece sits over the lower flooring, in this case, cement.
