Can You Use Felt Under Allure Vinyl Floor Planks?

Vinyl flooring is inexpensive and durable, making it an ideal choice for kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms and laundry rooms. Trafficmaster's Allure line is available in several wood species, including walnut, oak and cherry. Allure planks are easy to install and don't require any underlayment. In fact, laying felt under the planks may even void your warranty.
  1. How Vinyl Flooring Is Made

    • Allure planks don't require an underlayment because it is already built into the product. Most vinyl planks and tiles have a backing of felt or fiberboard to offer cushioning and stability. On top of the backing is a vinyl core covered by a design layer, a piece of paper printed with the image of wood or stone. The delicate design layer is protected by the wear layer, a tough, clear layer of vinyl.

    Benefits of Allure Plank Flooring

    • Vinyl flooring is water-resistant and can withstand heavy traffic. The durable, nonporous wear layer prevents scratching and staining. In addition to durability, vinyl flooring is warmer, softer and quieter than natural wood and stone. Allure planks are easy to install and virtually maintenance free.

    Basic Installation Guidelines

    • Allure planks are a floating floor secured to each other with a patented, adhesive GripStrip. Along two edges of each plank are adhesive strips that protrude from the plank. Along the other two edges are adhesive strips secured to underside of the plank. To stick the planks together, line up the protruding GripStrip to the GripStrip on the underside of the plank next to it and press firmly. The planks are quick and easy to install, just keep the strips free of any dust or debris that could affect the adhesive bond. No underlayment is necessary and Allure planks can be installed over any hard, flat surface, including tile, concrete or wood. After installation, walk over each seam to activate the pressure sensitive adhesive.

    Caring for Your Allure Floors

    • Dust and debris can scratch your vinyl flooring over time, so regularly sweep your Allure floors with a soft-bristled broom. Use non-rubber backed mats and rugs to attract dirt. Shake them out or vacuum them regularly. Regular household cleaners are not recommended for use on Allure flooring. Check with the manufacturer for cleaning product recommendations.
