Inspect the sauna floor and determine which way the slats will run. Measure the sauna floor perpendicular to the direction of the slats to determine a width. Add a 1/4 inch to the width of the slat face and divide the sauna width by this number to determine how many slats you'll need for the duckboard.
Stretch a tape measure across the face of the slat lumber to the required length and scribe a line. Cut the scribed line with a circular saw and repeat until you have enough slats to cover the sauna floor. Lay the slats face down next to each other.
Stretch a tape measure across the crossmember lumber and scribe a line at the room width. Cut the scribed line with a circular saw. Measure across the slats every two feet and cut another crossmember until you reach the opposite end.
Space the crossmembers out every two feet across the laid-out slats. Make sure that all of the crossmembers' ends are flush to the first slat. Thread a wood screw through the crossmember and directly into the first slat with a screw gun. Sink the screw head into the crossmember material 1/16 to 1/8 inch.
Space the second slat a quarter inch from the first, using a 1/4-inch spacer cut from scrap lumber to ensure that the spacing is the same. Make sure that the slat end matches the first. Thread a screw through each crossmember and into the second slat. Repeat the spacing and fastening process on each slat until the task is complete.
