Place the end of the measuring tape against the front edge of the last piece of laminate that is installed before the cabinet. Take the measurement three or four times to ensure accuracy. Subtract 1/4 inch from the measurement to allow room for expansion and spacers.
Turn the plank of laminate upside down. Mark the dimensions taken in Step 1 onto the back of the plank with a pencil. Make the mark near the side of the plank that contains the tongue.
Set a straight edge along the pencil mark and draw a line down the back of the plank.
Cut over the pencil line on the laminate panel with a jigsaw with a ground tooth set blade. Alternatively, you can use a circular saw to make the cut. Circular saws provide quicker cutting, although they may not offer the precision that the jigsaw does.
