Sweep or vacuum the stair. There should be no dirt or debris on the stair.
Install the stair riser as needed. Measure the front area of the stair riser with a measuring tape. Use the measurements and a circular saw to cut a piece of laminate to fit the stair riser. The top of the riser should fit flush with the subfloor. Apply a three-inch “S” type bead of construction adhesive on the back of the laminate and stick it in place on the riser. If the stair riser is already in place, skip this step.
Measure the area for the stair nose with a measuring tape. Use the measurement to mark and cut the laminate stair nose to size on a miter saw.
Apply a three-inch bead of construction adhesive in an “S” pattern on the back of the stair nose. Set the stair nose in place on the front of the stair. The stair nose should cover the top of the stair riser.
Drill holes approximately three inches apart from one another across the top of the stair nose with a drill and drill bit.
Place finish nails into the predrilled holes. Nail them in place and set them below the surface with a nail set.
Install the laminate flooring from the stair nose out into the rest of the room.
