How to Install Laminate Stair Nosing

Laminate flooring is simple for most homeowners to install. When the laminate flooring connects to steps, stair nosing is needed to finish the look of the step. The laminate stair nosing can be purchased in the same type and color of flooring as the rest of your floor. The laminate stair nosing must be added before the adjoining flooring can be installed, because the flooring's tongue fits directly into the groove of the stair nosing.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the stair where the laminate nosing will be installed with a measuring tape. Write down the measurement.

    • 2

Transfer the measurements to the laminate stair nosing. Cut the stair nosing to size on a miter saw.

    • 3

Apply two ¼-inch beads of construction adhesive on the back portion of the laminate stair nosing. Set the stair nosing in place on the stair. The nosing should cover the front portion of the stair, overlapping the riser.

    • 4

Install the laminate flooring from the stair nosing out to the rest of the room. Follow the manufacturer's directions to install the flooring.

    • 5

Tape the stair nosing to the laminate flooring while the glue beneath the stair riser dries overnight.
