How to Put in Maple Leaf Laminate Flooring

Maple leaf laminate flooring is laminate wood of a medium brown color made to look like maple. Like all laminate flooring, the boards are 46 ½ inches long and look best if installed parallel to incoming sunlight. When you get maple leaf laminate flooring, it comes in boxes of about 20 planks each. Mixing planks from different boxes when laying your floor gives it a natural look, since each box's planks have a slightly different grain. Maple leaf laminate floors can be installed over wood, concrete and tile, although a plastic barrier needs to be used between concrete and the laminate.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any carpet or wood glued to the floor. Use a solvent to remove stuck-on glue, and mop the floor well to clean it. Allow the floor to dry.

    • 2

Lay down a layer of plastic sheeting over concrete floor. Tape the sheets together with duct tape.

    • 3

Place ½-inch spacers against the wall and push the Maple Leaf laminate board up against it. The boards should be installed parallel to the longest wall in the room.

    • 4

Insert the next piece of flooring into the groove of the first piece and tap it into place with a spare piece of wood. Repeat this process until you get to the end of the first row.

    • 5

Cut off the end of the last board with a handsaw to make it fit into the space if it’s too long. Snap the board into place.

    • 6

Remove the spacers and place the base molding pieces in its place. Slip them between the floor and the wall, and nail them to the wall. Place threshold covers over gaps near doors and joining pieces of floor. Nail the threshold covers into place too.
