Cutting Laminate Flooring for a Diagonal Wall

Laminate flooring is available in a wide range of thicknesses and patterns, and you can install it using any of several different methods. When installing a large sheet of laminate near a diagonal wall, snap, or draw, visible lines of the room dimensions on the unrolled flooring material using a chalk box. The snapped layout lines ensure that the cuts are precise. To cut the laminate sheets, use a utility knife to scribe along the snapped layout lines.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the lengths and widths of the two longest walls in the room, using a tape measure, to determine the size of the space.

    • 2

Unroll the laminate flooring in an area bigger than the room where you are installing it. Transfer the total width and length measurements to each corner of the laminate. Snap lines from mark to mark, forming the room area as if no angles were present.

    • 3

Measure the shorter wall that makes up the angle. Transfer this measurement to the corresponding layout line on the laminate.

    • 4

Stretch a chalk line from the short wall mark to the long wall mark to form an angle across the laminate. Snap the chalk line. Measure the laminate markings and compare them with the room measurements.

    • 5

Cut along the line using a sharp utility knife. Roll the laminate out to dry-fit it into the room before fully installing it.
