What Can You Use to Fill a Space Between Laminate Floor Tiles?

Caulking

• If small gaps appear between laminate floor tiles in rooms where moisture is an issue, like bathrooms or kitchens, or at the edges of floors where the repair work can remain hidden, caulk provides a good filler option. Caulk has an easy application process, which makes it ideal for quick fixes. To fill a space between laminate floor tiles with caulk, apply a bead of caulk across the seam where the tiles meet and spread it with a plastic knife or a wet finger.

Adhesive

• If the space between laminate floor tiles is due to the laminate coming up from the floor, it means that the adhesive is failing and adhesive should be used to secure the tile back to the floor. Use a spray adhesive to get between the edges of the tile and spray the adhesive on the floor. Press the edges of the laminate floor tiles back together on the floor. If the tiles have a lot of bend to them, use a floor roller to press the laminate back down flat.

Grout

• Unlike ceramic, porcelain, glass and other heavy tiles, laminate floor tiles do not require grouting. Instead, the tiles are generally manufactured to include borders that mimic the look of grout. If spaces appear between laminate floor tiles though, those spaces may generally be filled with a small amount of grout. Choose an acrylic grout labeled for laminate or vinyl floor tiles and apply the grout with a small plastic applicator, filling the spaces between tiles and wiping up any grout from the laminate floor tiles’ tops.

Doorways

• When spaces between laminate floor tiles occur in doorways, this is a good opportunity to provide a proper transition to the flooring surface. If the gaps appear parallel to the doorframe, you can install an appropriate metal or wood transition piece right between the tile edges. If the gaps in the laminate floor tiles are smaller than 1 inch in width though, you must generally widen the gap to at least 1 inch to fit a transition piece.
