3 Sided Fireplace Fan Installation

Shut off any gas and/or electricity to the fireplace unit.

Remove the louvered panel from the bottom of the side of the fireplace to the right of the solid back panel. Open the louver from the top with a downward motion. Lift the bottom of the louver from the slots holding the screws while it is open and unhook the springs at the top. Set aside.

Examine the blower unit for your fireplace -- many units connect using magnets, but some are held in by tabs on the fireplace itself. Attach either type of unit to the solid wall of the fireplace, facing the opposite end. Position it toward the middle of the wall. Slip blowers held in with tabs in place and bend the tabs over the lip of the unit. Place double-sided foam tape and the magnet on the back wall of the fireplace for a magnet-held blower. Expose the tape on the side away from the wall and press the blower into it and against the magnet.

Locate the perforated hole in the wall or ceiling of the blower area. Remove the metal cover from the hole with a standard screwdriver and feed the blower's fan control wires into it. Wire a top-mounted fan control switch by feeding the wires through the channel behind the metal cover -- depending on your fireplace model, you may need to remove the trim along the fireplace corner to move the wire along. Attach these wires to the fan control with the enclosed screws. If your unit's fan control is on a magnet, attach the magnet control to the top of the section of the fireplace holding the blower. Plug the fan into the outlet in the junction box wired below the fireplace.

Reattach the louvered door by slipping the screws into the teardrop shaped slots near the bottom corners of the door frame. Carefully clip the springs in place at the top of the door frame. Open and close the door a few times to ensure the fit is correct.
