How to Build a Two-Sided Fireplace

The aesthetic advantage of a two-sided fireplace is the charm and luxury of seeing a soothing fire from two different viewpoints. Instructions

    • 1

Tag a symmetrical section of your land with spray paint so you can start digging the foundation. The base of your fireplace can be any shape -- just make sure that you set it up so that viewers on both sides of the fireplace will have a good view of the blaze.

    • 2

Excavate 10 to 12 inches from the surface to provide a solid foundation. Fill the hole with cement, level it out with your trowel and allow the foundation to harden for at least 24 hours.

    • 3

Place your cement blocks, bricks or stones on the foundation and stick them into place with cement. Put a heavy emphasis on creating a sturdy contour along the structure’s sides, as your fireplace will purposely be without two sides.

    • 4

Furnish your two-sided fireplace with a metal log burner to hold firewood and a stylish metal or stone chimney topper. If you used concrete blocks, you can attach decorative stones or bricks to the exterior with cement.
