Instructions

    • 1

Check your fireplace application to make sure the Quikrete mortar mix will not be directly exposed to high temperatures (over 300 degrees F.). Generally, these lower temperature areas are composed of wood or stucco and ordinary brick. Fire brick areas, considered high temperature areas, will require another product for stone installation.

Mix 1 part Quikrete acrylic fortifier to 5 parts of Quikrete mortar mix. Mix thoroughly in a plastic bucket using a trowel. Adjust the mix consistency by adding small amounts of water or mortar mix as necessary. The consistency should be fairly thick, almost like stiff pudding.

    • 3

Test the consistency of the mix by letting it slide off the trowel while holding the trowel vertically over the plastic bucket. The mix should not slide off the trowel, if held steady. If the mix drops off the trowel too easily, it is too moist. Add a slight amount of dry mortar mix to the plastic bucket and blend thoroughly. Test again.

Dampen the application surfaces of all materials that will be in contact with the Quikrete mortar mix. Stir the mix occasionally until you are ready to begin laying stone. Do not wait too long to begin since the mortar mix is now curing (drying).
