Set up the extension ladder against the eave of the house and climb up on the roof by your chimney.
Take the chimney cap and slide the 6-inch screw clamp over the connection sleeve of the cap. Connect one end of the flexible chimney liner to to the cap by sliding the liner over the sleeve. Caulk the top where the chimney liner and chimney cap meet with fire safe caulk (rated for 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit) and tighten the screw clamp a few inches below the top of the chimney liner. Tug on the line and cap to make sure they are secured properly.
Lower down the other end of the chimney liner down the chimney to the fireplace. The chimney cap will have four tension screws on it that secure the cap to the original chimney flue. Slide the cap over the flue and tighten the tension screws with a screwdriver until the cap is secure.
Go to the fireplace and remove the trim kit around the fireplace with a cordless drill and locate the exhaust sleeve.
Slide a 6-inch screw clamp over the exhaust sleeve on the fireplace. Side the flexible chimney liner onto the fireplace sleeve. Cut the chimney liner if necessary with a utility knife. Caulk once on the sleeve with fire safe caulk around the chimney liner where it meets the top of the fireplace. Tighten the screw clamp.
Replace the trim kit on the fireplace.
