Purchasing Guidelines

• Four basic models of Easy Fire pellet stoves are available from which to choose. You can purchase freestanding Easy Fire pellet stoves or buy an insert. The wood pellet stove insert fits into the opening of a traditional wood-burning fireplace. Typically, fireplace inserts are more energy efficient than freestanding units. You may be required to install a smaller lining in the chimney flue to accommodate the insert so that it can operate properly.

  All units have a 12-volt direct current (DC) battery backup system that is very energy efficient and is ideal if you live in an area that is prone to electrical power failures. The backup system enables you to operate the Easy Fire pellet stove continually for up to 48 hours.

  Before purchasing your Easy Fire wood pellet stove, check to make sure that you have a reliable source for your fuel supply in your area. Many manufacturers of the wood pellet stove and fuel are located in the western states in the Mountain time zone. Attempt to get the best and most efficient fuel burn. Generally, the standard size for the wood pellets is ¼ inch in diameter and ¼ to ¾ inch in length. Smaller pellets are easier to load, burn longer and have larger flames.

  You can reduce the ashes and cleanup that is necessary by using fuel that has a low ash and silica content. Pellets with a high content of these ingredients will cause a quick buildup of ashes, which may affect the stove efficiency if not cleaned promptly. Speak to your wood pellet stove vendor about the best fuel to burn and consider buying in bulk when you have found a dependable source. It's best to buy fuel during the early stages of the heating season to keep your fuel cost as low as possible.

Installation Guidelines

• These wood pellet stoves are intended to heat a designated space or to provide for "zone" heat. The best location for the installation may be an area where the family frequently gathers, such as a living room or family room. When using the pellet stove for continuous operation, move the setting to low or medium.

  Follow the manual for installation. Check with the vendor and the product warranty, because a do-it-yourself installation may void the warranty. Typically, Easy Fire wood stoves require at least a five foot vertical rise or height before a horizontal run. The clearance for combustible wall material is just three inches. A hearth comprised of noncombustible material is required underneath the stove.
