Installing a Fireplace Blower

A fireplace can introduce an opening into your home that creates drafts. Installing a blower into your fireplace is an easy modification that you can perform on your fireplace that will not only keep it from losing warm air but can even decrease your heating costs. The blower sucks air from the room through openings in the lower openings of the tubes, the fire heats the air as it is forced up the tubes and finally the warm air is sent back into the room through the upper openings of the tubes.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean out the fire pit of the fireplace to remove soot and debris.

    • 2

Place the tube rack of the blower on the floor of the fire pit.

    • 3

Position the tubing so it is centered lengthwise and widthwise in the fire pit.

    • 4

Turn the electrical component of the blower so the cord end runs to the left or the right, depending on where the closest outlet is located.

    • 5

Attach the electrical component to the lower ends of the tubes. Place the component so that the tubes enter the holes designated on the back of the component.

    • 6

Place the motor box on the hearth as far away from the opening of the fire pit as you can put it. The motor box is a small black box attached to the power cord.

    • 7

Plug the power cord into an outlet and turn the motor on via the switch on the motor box.

    • 8

Lay the firewood on top of the blower tubes so that the logs are contained within the structure. Placing the wood in this position will keep the flames away from the electrical component of the blower.
